Curriculum

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework.  We take guidance from Development Matters to plan activities and set up our indoor and outdoor spaces to ensure good development of the characteristics of effective learning;

  • Playing and exploring
  • Active learning
  • Creating and thinking critically

Your child will experience activities and play that cover the seven areas of learning;

  • Communication and language
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Our staff ‘plan in the moment’ when deciding what activities to carry out on the day and across the week. This is a pedagogical approach from Anna Ephgrave which focuses on making observations of your child in that moment of engagement in play and responding to that observation in a way that creates opportunities for learning to be deepened.

We offer a ‘School in the Woods’ session in the Bordon Enclosure for our three year olds where children learn from their natural environment and create art work using natural materials.  You can read more about this here.

We also offer baking and cooking sessions to encourage Great Britain’s next star baker as well as promoting healthy eating and a good attitude towards food.  Art activities happen daily as does  access to bikes and trikes outdoors.  We also have good links with our Lindford church community and we use this space to practice songs and meet the elderly church members once a half term.

What your child will need with them

Food

Pollyanna’s provides a morning snack consisting of a fruit or vegetable and a carbohydrate such as a slice of toast, crackers or breadsticks.

You must provide your child with a named packed lunch and a named water bottle each day your child attends. Our policy on acceptable lunch items can emailed if requested.

Clothing

We are a free flow setting all year round so please send your child with appropriate clothing and spare clothing so they may comfortably access play indoors and outdoors.  They will need

  • Wellington boots (named)
  • A warm and waterproof coat (named)
  • X2 spare pants
  • spare socks, a spare top and trousers

We have wet weather suits that we can provide for your child if they are with us for our School in the Woods session in Bordon Enclosure.

Toilet training

Our staff are experienced in toilet training and we are happy to work with you and follow your routine to encourage your child to use the toilet independently.  We have nappies and wipes on site but you are welcome to provide your own.  Just let a member of staff know.  Please ensure you pack spare pants and clothing for your child in case of any toilet accidents.
